Colour Research

We want to look in to what colours mean, and whether certain colours are used in anything medical and/or meaning behind these colours and therefore what colour to use for branding this art gallery.

We want to use bright and warm colours to create a real contrast to the colours seen in hospitals which are usually quite dull and cold like light greens and blues. We want to create the exact opposite so that it is very striking to the people when they walk in from the cold and dull hospital in to a warm and bright art gallery. This would instantly make people feel warm and welcome in a slit second simply from the colours in the gallery, and the same would be transferred to the logos and posters as we would keep the colour schemes the same as this is a brand and needs to be recognisable.

From looking on the internet, here are my findings on colours and their meanings:

* Red - love, passion, heat, joy, power.
* Pink - sweet, nice, romance, playful, delicate.
* Yellow - happy, joy, cheerful, remembrance.
* Gold - riches, extravagance, bright, traditional.
* Orange - energy, warmth, change, health.

From this research in to colours and their meanings we have decided to run with the colour orange. We have decided this because although all the colours are something to do with our theme and what we want, we think that the meanings behind orange fit what we wanted perfectly and that most people would be able to understand the meanings behind it and still feel warm and invited. Therefore the main colour in all the posters, flyer etc will be in orange.
